MUSCAT — After the successful Oman International Rally, the Oman Automobile Association, responding to the request of motor sport loving drivers, will hold ‘Rally Speed Challenge’ event for the first time in the Sultanate on Friday, May 20 at the Rally Circuit which is approximately 2.6 km located in front of the OAA premises.
Thirteen rally drivers have already confirmed their participation.
The format of the Rally Speed Challenge is somewhat like ‘time attack’ — that is all drivers will cross the race track three times and out of the total 13 participants, five best finishers will qualify to enter in the final race and the fastest of these five will be declared as the champion.
Well known and proven rally drivers of Oman namely Hamood al Toqi, Khalid Soomar, Khalid al Minji, Ibrahim al Abri, Faizal al Rashidi, Hamid al Qasmi will be participating in the event.
While Adnan Jamman will make a return to races through this rally, Ilyas Qasim will be taking part after a long gap.
All safety precautions and rules and regulations will be strictly adhered to throughout the rally by OAA’s rally organising committee members.
Oman International Bank and Target LLC are the sponsors.
At a recent organising committee meeting, the drivers expressed their happiness for conducting this rally and hoped that such events will be organised more than once a year in future.
There is an appeal from the rally drivers seeking more sponsorship support from local and international companies which will assist them to participate in rallies competently as all rallying is a costly sport.
The Rally Speed Challenge will be flagged off at 4.30 pm on May 20 by Dr Juma bin Ali al Juma, Chairman of Oman International Bank and all are welcome to witness this grand event and support the participants.
