The Oman government has employed 16,200 citizens so far this year, according to Shaikh Khalid Bin Omar Bin Said Al Marhoon, Civil Service Minister.
In a statement issued through the government-owned Oman News Agency, the minister said that the recruitment of citizens in Civil Service followed an order by Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed to give employment to 50,000 Omani job seekers.
The country’s ruler issued the order after protests in different parts of the country, demanding jobs and higher wages for the Omanis.
He added that the new appointments included more than 12,700 university degree holders. The education ministry has employed 6, 250 citizens while 6,492 citizens have been appointed in the ministries and some other governmental units.
Shaikh Khalid said that efforts were on to ensure that more job opportunities are created for people with different specialisations and qualifications.
