Results trickle in

Citizens yesterday turned out in thousands at voting centres as they participated in election for the Majlis Ash’shura Seventh Term (2011-2015). Right at the end of the polling process, which lasted from 7 am to 7 pm, the Main Election Committee announced the preliminary list of winners as follows:

Omani voters started casting their votes to elect 84 members to the Majlis Ash’shura 7th term yesterday. As many as 1,133 candidates, including 77 women, contested in a historic day. From 7 am, the 900 ballot boxes at 105 election centres in the different wilayats of the Sultanate received citizens to cast their votes to elect their representatives. Each election centre included between 6 to 16 ballot boxes designed in a way that ensure smooth voting process.

The committees which organised the elections said that the process went well as voters waited in organised queues in front of the election centres in the wilayat. The Main Committee for Majlis Ash‚Äôshura 7th term elections noted earlier that 518,000 male and female voters have been registered in all wilayats of the Sultanate. Everything was prepared to receive voters after the ballot boxes received last Saturday, October 8 Omani voters at the embassies of the other GCC countries, as well as those working in the election committees in all the wilayats in the Sultanate who cast their votes to elect who will represent them for Majlis Ash’shura as they could not cast their votes in the general election held yesterday.
