Oman’s hopes at the 2012 London Olympics came to an end on Saturday when sprinter Barakat MubarakAL-HARTHI finished seventh in the men’s first round 100m heats at the Olympic Stadium. Barakat registered a timing of 10.41 seconds.
Earlier, Ahmed al Marjaby’s dream of making his Olympic debut was dashed after he was forced to pull out of the 400m race with a hamstring problem. Marjaby was taken to the Olympic polyclinic on Friday after he complained of pain while training, and a serious hamstring tear was detected.
We will start with the spectacular performance by Shnoona al Habsi, who came 4th in her women’s 100m heat at #London2012 for #Oman in 12.45s and narrowly missed advancing to the next round.
Haitham, the shooting sensation put up a splendid performance and scored 129 points to be ranked as 19th among the world’s best of the best.
Barakat MubarakAL-HARTHI will be competing in Men’s (Olympic Stadium – Saturday, 04 August 2012 10:00) and Ahmed Mohamed Al-Merjabi will be competing in Men’s 400m (Round 1 Olympic Stadium – Saturday, 04 August 2012 10:35) race.
Shinoona Salah Al-Habsi of Oman was unlikely to trouble the favourites for gold, but as she sprinted down the track in the Olympic Stadium wearing colourful hijabs there was a sense of progress and national pride.
