Held for the first time in 2007 at Sultan Qaboos University, this years’ event has been expanded to a three-day event which will take place at Sohar University on May 5th, Majan College University on May 6th and Sultan Qaboos University on May 7th.

Team scores will be based on four criteria including whether the egg has landed unharmed without cracks or dents, whether the egg itself has touched the ground, if the egg lands within the landing zone and finally, the creativity and performance of the egg-landing machine.

Each team must consist of two students but only one of the team members will be allowed to access the 15m high platform. The egg-landing machine must not be larger than 1 cubic meter (1x1x1), should not weigh more than 5kg and must not contain any materials that could impact or contaminate the ground.

As prizes, the winning team from each university will receive a beginner’s course in kite surfing. The second place team will win a scuba diving experience and the third place team will receive go-karting tickets. The overall winning team will experience an all-expenses paid trip to Sky Dive in Dubai.

After claiming the local title B-Boy Engine said: “Last year I came second and when my hand wasn’t raised as the winner I made it my mission to win. Tonight my dream came true.”

B-Boying for the past 12 years on the streets of Oman, B-Boy Engine is self-taught and says he enjoys the feeling he get performing on stage and feeling the energy of the crowd.

Practicing every day, he has developed a good flow with a mixed style combining a variety of maneuvers and tricks including slides and intricate footwork.

“It is a great pleasure and I am proud to be able to represent the Sultanate in the upcoming regional final. I am going to do whatever it takes to do well. I won’t be satisfied until I take the trophy again.”

Two-time defending champion and 2013 runner up, Mazin Al Rashdi admitted feeling a bit disappointed but happy for his fellow crew member. “On the third set I lost focus and forgot my moves but it’s great that one of our crew members won the competition.”

Held on April 25 at Bait Al Zubair Museum in Muttrah, which is located in the historic city of Muscat close to Al-Alam Palace, the event had a distinct cultural and historical element. London based DJ Renegade played a mix of electrifying break beats to absorb the audience and keep the ambience lively and vibrant.

Made up of some of the best internationally renowned dancers, the judging panel included three members of the BC One All Stars. The trio included B-Boys Lamine, Lilou and Pelezinho.

Dancers were judged on three main skills including technique, innovation and dance flow. Commenting on the final Battle B-Boy Lilou, judge and winner of the Red Bull BC One 2005 and 2009 World Championship in Germany and USA respectively, said: “We saw some great battles and some very talented B-Boys this year. I am happy that B-Boy Engine won as he was here to win and you could see it on his face. He deserved it and has been trying for so many years – this year he was successful.”

He adds: “Compared to the rest of the Middle East the Omani B-Boys have some very strong and powerful moves. The last time I visited Oman was in 2010 and they have evolved and improved a lot.”

The Red Bull BC One All Stars were formed in 2010 and has grown from its original team of four to a crew of nine internationally renowned dancers who are all veterans of the competition circuit. The Red Bull BC One All Stars travel the world teaching workshops, judging and competing in battles, educating and inspiring a new generation by sharing their knowledge and passion for B-Boying – one of the original elements of Hip Hop.

Last year’s edition of The Red Bull BC One Championship attained unprecedented levels of success and popularity with the organization of more than 60 local finals in 52 countries and the participation of more than 1000 B-Boys. During the 2012 tour, B-Boy Mounir of France won the title in Rio De Janeiro after beating the South Korean B-Boy Differ during the final round.

This year winners of country Cyphers will get the chance to compete in one of six global qualifiers in an attempt to reach the 10th World Final in late November. Qualifiers have been confirmed for the Americas in USA; Eastern Europe in Ukraine; Western Europe in Italy; Latin America in Colombia; Asia Pacific in Japan; and Middle East & Africa in Egypt.

Failure to sell tickets and failure at finding strong sponsors led to this, the May 6 show is cancelled. Ticket holders have the chance to use the Oman ticket for the SECOND Dubai show (Hey, it’s cheaper).

To the citizens of Oman, DON’T EVER COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW WE DON’T GET GOOD SHOWS IN OMAN , THIS IS WHY.

The bigger names lined up might even end up getting cancelled.

Sham, a rapper/singer/song writer, started his career at the age of 18 in Malaysia. He launched his first demo song Naughty Boy in 2008 which went to number one on Radio One. He has now successfully completed his first album which features international artists. Sham’s music video One & only went to number one on MTV Asia/Arabia and his latest single Morning Light, which was shot in BOUDOIR night club in Dubai, hit number five on the US Independent Music Network and number one on the Indie Charts.

Most recently Sham performed with the likes of Ne-Yo, Sean Paul and Jay Sean. DJ Junior, a residence DJ at Intercontinental Hotel Muscat for about 10 years, has been spinning records since the late ’90s. DJ Fawaz is a Jordanian producer and DJ based in Muscat. He performs dance music, including heavy remixes of club and hip-hop favourites, funky house and amalgamations of other styles.
